Texting Might Kill You!

Threats & danger in texting behind the wheels.

by: Bryan R. Mesias

Excessive speed, drunk, engine broken or driver inexperience are possible factors to consider in a car accident. Yet another factor is texting while driving.

Texting while driving leads to increased distraction behind the wheels. “Results showed that 37% of students found texting to be “very” or “extremely” distracting while driving a car.” (http://en.wikipedia.org)

“Survey shows 46% of teens admitted to being distracted behind the wheels due to texting. One example of distraction behind the wheels is the which killed 25 passengers. The subsequent investigation revealed that the engineer had sent 45 text messages while operating the train.”

Despite the threats of dangers of texting behind the wheels, about half of teen drivers 16 to 24 say they have texted while driving, compared with 22 percent of drivers 33 to 44. Texting can distract you from seeing and responding to street lights and road signs.

I think schools and other political officials should help by broadcasting this information about driving hazards. Let the people, especially teenager, know how dangerous these little actions are.

I believe teens here in Canada have the intelligence to know actions like this can harm them or even spare others life. Accidents may also cost you a lot of money, and it can even cost you your own life.

Here are three easy tips to avoid that life threatening habit.

1st Tip: If you receive a text, do not open the message yet. Go somewhere else to park or stop for the meantime like car parks or gasoline refilling stations. You can not always do two things at the same time you know.

2nd Tip: If you have a friend with you. Let them answer the message. But if the message is too private, then I prefer you do the 1st tip.

3rd Tip: If the message is really not that important, why text? You don’t want to risk your life for just a single text right?

So teens! Be practical, do not let a message wreck your life and other’s life.
